Designed for Experienced Drivers
by a Professional Over the Road Driver.
In 2003, after being laid off from North America's largest unionized LTL trucking company the previous year, even though I had thirty years of trucking experience together with a blemish free employment and safety record, I found myself still out of work due to a down-turn in the economy. Turning to the Internet for help, I found a job site that promised to keep my information from companies that I would never work for, and so I filled out the info making sure to list the "bad actors" that I had no use for. The very next day, my home phone stared rining off the hook; however, most of the calls, sometimes several times a day, were from the companies that I listed as DO NOT CONTACT! It got so bad my Congressman referred me to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), who then contacted the C.E.O. of one of the companies. He was informed that if the harrassment didn't stop that their phone service was going to be shut down!
This experience left me with the desire to find a better way for truckers to get their resumes out there, without any of the downside. First, it had to be free to truckers. Second, it should be anonymous so that the drivers could make the choice of who to respond to and who to ignore. And, after finding no such company, OTR Jobs.com (and OTR Jobs.ca for Canadian drivers, eh) was born. Since then, we have also added OTR Rookie.com, for drivers with no to minimum experience, could benefit from the same concept.
Hind sight being 20/20, if I could do my career all over again, sure there would be changes made. But, for the most part, I am happy to have spent these last four (4) decades as a professional OTR driver. It has been a good living, and a good life for our family, the wife and I. With that being said, we wish the best to you and yours, as well.
